Wait, Who’s Shelsko?
Sheldon Skoboloff (he/him) is a writer, director, and sound designer, known far and wide as the inventor of the mocha (don’t look it up.) Born to a Latino Jewish family in Las Vegas, Nevada, he’s always been deeply interested in understanding and studying culture, spending countless hours falling down Wikipedia rabbit holes trying to figure out exactly what he is (we still don’t know.)
To investigate further, Sheldon left home and attended the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television as an Alumni Scholar in the Integrated Studies program. Recently, he wrote, co-directed, and produced his first full length play YOU NEVER EXISTED at the Kerckhoff Grand Salon with Out of the Blue Theater Company and ASUCLA. Previous directing projects include scene work from a Zoom version of UNCLE VANYA focused on cyber sex crimes and the Nicky Silver play RAISED IN CAPTIVITY. While at UCLA Sheldon has also had the opportunity to sound design various productions, including an immersive murder-mystery take on OEDIPUS (Anna Makauskas, Out of the Blue) and a queered THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST (Hall McCurdy, Out of the Blue.) He assisted Winter Hagstrom in the sound design of THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE (Jennifer Chang, UCLA TFT.)
More of Sheldon’s non theatrical writing can be found at Hey Alma (College Writing Fellow), FAST AT UCLA, The Listening Dolls, and his new Substack “Shelsko Shouts.” A collection of his poems were featured in Bruins Belong: Diaspora and the Meaning of Home, presented by the UCLA Library’s Department of International and Area Studies.
Sheldon’s endeavors in the near future include participating in a six week Dramatic Writing Workshop at the Geffen Playhouse, serving as the Dramaturg for BRIGHT STAR (Anna Makauskas, Out of the Blue) and the Sound Designer for HEAD OVER HEELS (Hall McCurdy, Act iii), and completing a capstone project for his Professional Writing Minor.
